Recently I have started making huge changes in my life, my values, ethos and educating myself on how I can approach ethical issues and tackle them head on as an individual. The earth is in a pretty dire state due to our negligence and its time we all pull together to serious take action.

I thought I would pop together a mini list on the simple changes to help you to gravitate towards a more natural ethical way of life and feel free to then research them more in depth 🙂

This is only a mini list and doesn’t show all the ways we can help aid the environment, however these are the ones I have experience with and feel comfortable talking about. Please share any if you have any more guys.

GO VEGAN

My god I am so glad I don’t support and fund these cruel and disgusting industries anymore for my own greed and taste buds. When we decide that an animals life is just as valued as our own we become not only a more loving and compassionate person but you start to see the world differently, the cruelty and the murder of animals is outrageous.

I used to think I was doing enough and supporting the cause by being vegetarian then I started to educate myself more about the cruelty that is the egg and dairy industry and I couldn’t believe that I had been living a lie for all these years.

There are so many reasons to be plant based, if that’s in support of these poor animals, your health or for the environment. If at least one doesn’t resonate with you then I think it might be time to check in with your morals.

Animal agriculture is the cause of a staggering 51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions. This is MIND BLOWING! and it needs to stop. The land use and water use to feed animals to then unnecessarily slaughter these poor babies is killing our planet. It takes an enormous amount of water to grow crops for animals to eat, clean filthy factory farms, and give animals water to drink. A single cow used for milk can drink up to 50 gallons of water per day—or twice that amount in hot weather—and it takes 683 gallons of water to produce just 1 gallon of milk. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef, while producing 1 pound of tofu only requires 244 gallons of water. By going vegan, one person can save approximately 219,000 gallons of water a year.

We DONT need to eat animal products anymore, we have delicious alternatives to everything which involved NOT hurting animals. Change is coming be apart of this fantastic, ethical movement and make a difference.

Use an e coffee cup and re-usable water bottle

Plastic is a huge problem, its ending up and taking over our oceans, not to mention killing and poisoning the fish living in our seas. Between eight and 12 million tons of plastic are dumped in the world’s seas each year. According to statistics from the United Nations, if current levels of pollution continue, there will be more plastic than fish in the seas by 2050 – this is the scariest thing ever. Plastic bottles are a big part of that problem. In the UK, over 35 million bottles are consumed each day, with around 16 million of those going unrecycled.

I have this gorgeous e coffee cup and with brands such as Pret knocking 50p off every time you use your own cup – this issue is slowly starting to reach people. Make sure your bottle is BPA free too! No nasty chemicals in the plastic!

Get a canvas shopping bag and reuse it

Or take your backpack with you.

Boycott palm oil

You will see palm oil in loads of beauty products but it is SO BAD for the environment. The huge demand for palm oil means that thousands of square miles of Malaysian and Indonesian rain forests has been taken and replaced with oil palm to fund the demand. The elimination of all those trees leads to additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; but more significantly, the burning of felled peat forests releases carbon that’s been stored in the ground for centuries.

The thing is that we are in the driving seat, less demand = less of it being made. The consumer has the power!

Go paperless

Check in with your banks and tell them to only send bills online. Who can be arsed to shred it all up anyway?

Step away from the chemicals

This is a new one for me but as I recently discovered chemicals are literally in all our household cleaning products, beauty, food! The average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body every day without even knowing it!

Beauty Products, foods and detergents and plastics have shit loads of disgusting toxic chemicals that is harming our body espcially those ever so popular ones on Boots shelves. I literally check every ingredient on everything I buy and it is time costly but I need to know exactly what is going on to my skin.

The harsh chemicals I try to aviod putting on my skin are

  • Parabens. …
  • Synthetic colors. …
  • Fragrance. …
  • Phthalates. …
  • Triclosan. …
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). …
  • Formaldehyde. …
  • Toluene.

I recently switched to an all natural soap and natural shampoo with NO parabens or sulfates in there. I also use an all natural deodorant and I am slowly making the switch to natural makeup. Brands such as Green People are great.

“Anything that ends with paraben — propylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben — [many of them] have actually been banned in Europe and linked to cancer” 60 percent of that is then absorbed into our bodies. STAY away from these  chemicals guys!

Instead try an all organic coconut oil or olive oil to moisturise and as a face cleanser – this will save you a hell of a lot of money too.
